British funding for Israeli shelter for abused women
Work started on a new shelter for battered women in Israel, a collaboration between the charity No To Violence Against Women and Amos Goldreich Architecture in London.
The charity’s first purpose-built shelter, the building will accommodate families from a diverse set of backgrounds, including Arab, Israeli, Ethiopian, Russian and Ukrainian, and will cater for women and children who have been the subjects of domestic violence and abuse.
Located near Tel Aviv, the priority of the architects is to make the building feel like home.
Charity chairman Ruth Rasnic said: “Residents receive empathy and compassion, legal aid, medical direction, help in locating new homes and assistance with furniture.”
